Writer's picture: Brian TheisBrian Theis

With the Labor Day holiday weekend fast approaching, I decided it was time for the internet world premiere of my "Happy Birthday Hamburger Sliders." These juicy, tasty burgers are a highlight of the "April Showers and One to Grow On" chapter of The Infinite Feast. I'll be cooking them up for all my friends this weekend! 🍔 🍔 🍔

Happy Birthday Hamburger Sliders

Makes 12 sliders

2 pounds ground chuck (80% lean)

2 tablespoons Creole or spicy coarse-grained mustard

1 small sweet onion, chopped fine, about 1/2 cup

3 tablespoons finely chopped parsley

1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil

12 slices extra sharp cheddar cheese

12 red onion slices

12 tomato slices

Romaine lettuce, chopped

12 slider buns or sandwich-size rolls, lightly toasted

Pickle relish, mayonnaise, ketchup

In large bowl, mix together ground chuck, mustard, onion, parsley, panko, salt, pepper. Form 12 cute 'n chubby patties about 2 1/2-inches wide each.

In a large cast iron pan (preferable) or large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat.

Cook each patty, turning at least once, about 8 minutes total or till done as desired.

During last minute of cooking place cheese atop each burger as desired, cover pan about 30 seconds to melt cheese slightly.

Serve on toasted buns with toppings and condiments. 🍔 🍔 🍔
