Cher's Hawaiian Meatballs American Style

Gypsies, tramps, and meatballs! Check out these Cher-balls! Whatever's bothering you today, they're so scrumptious, they'll make you "snap out of it!"

Photo from a test of this recipe by Jessica Wrubel of Parade dot com, HERE.

They've got that Hawaiian sweetness, "American Style." And that Chef Cher is certainly "willowy!" From The Celebrity Cookbook Volume II (1978).

NOTE: I'd probably dial back the salt a bit on this one. One tablespoon should be just fine.

CHER'S HAWAIIAN MEATBALLS AMERICAN STYLE

2 1/2 Ibs. ground beef

1/2 cup minced onion

1 egg

2 T. salt

1 cup bread crumbs

1/2 t. ginger

1 1/2 T. shortening

1/2 cup milk

2 1/2 T. cornstarch

2 cans (13 1/2 oz. ea.) pineapple tidbits, drained (reserve syrup)

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

2 T. soy sauce

1/2 cup vinegar

1/2 cup chopped green pepper

Combine meat, minced onion, egg, bread crumbs, salt, ginger, and milk.

Shape mixture into balls. Melt shortening in large skillet and cook meatballs until browned. Remove meatballs from skillet and place in oven on low heat to keep warm. Drain fat from skillet.

Mix cornstarch and brown sugar, stirring in the vinegar, soy sauce and reserved pineapple syrup until mixture is smooth. Pour into skillet and cook over a medium heat, stirring frequently until mixture becomes thick and is boiling. Continue to boil and stir for 1 minute.

Adding meatballs, green pepper and pineapple bits, heat completely through.

Then, when you're done with that, just . . .

:-) Happy cooking!
